Introducing our 2017 Vintage Release... 

2017 was the year the stars aligned at Bigibila. It rained all the previous winter. Our dams were full, our vines were happy and the whole farm was thriving. We had the highest yield of fruit we'd ever had, picking twice as much as ever before. The quality and intensity of the fruit was amazing, and it ripened beautifully. The ferments were easy and stress free, "getting through" quickly and in a spectacular fashion. In short, the season was PERFECT.  


And it shows in the wines...

We produced five wines in the year that was, all of them 100% varietals. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and reintroducing our premium Shiraz, Wyatt's. Our first showing was at the Ballarat Wine Show (2018) where we were awarded 5 medals for the 5 entries, in each wine's individual category.

"These wines are all drinking beautifully now, and will only get better with age. It would be nice if every year was like 2017, both in the vineyard and in the winery."

Tasting Notes


2017 Wyatt’s Shiraz

Alc/Vol: 15.4%

Dense in colour, a stunning nose, with blueberry, cedar oak and hints of iodine and charcuterie. The palate has layers – coffee bean, black pepper and blueberry. A tight structure, with fine, powdery tannins and a savoury finish.  There’s something very special about this unfiltered wine, which has spent 20 months on 30% new American oak. Enjoy it now as a big, well balanced  Shiraz or watch it develop over the next two to three decades into something even more spectacular.

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon  

Alc/Vol: 14.3%  

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has a coffee bean/toasty nose with aromas of liquroice. The palate is ripe blackcurrant and wild raspberry with a mineral edge. Cedary oak rounds out a beautifully balanced, medium bodied Cabernet.  Love it now or let it star in your cellar until 2035.

2017 Merlot  

Alc/Vol: 14.3%  

The long aniticapated Bigibila Merlot is well worth the wait. Dense in colour, it is strikingly opaque - a deep garnet. Nose of liquorice, blackberry and hits of coffee bean. The palate delivers what the nose promised, showing blackberry with a line of minerality and a savoury finish. Enjoy immediately or cellar until 2030.

2017 Shiraz  

Alc/Vol: 14.3%

The Bigibila Shiraz shows a clear deep garnet colour and a meaty, masculine nose, with blackberry and a hint of eucalypt. The palate displays the terroir beautifully, with the minerality shining through and a ripe and briary finish with a herbal edge. First class oak and lovely, structured tannins make an exquisitely balanced Pyrenees Shiraz. Drink now or make it your cellar star until 2035.

2017 Cabernet Franc   

Alc/Vol: 13.9%

A triumphant return to the 100% Cabernet Franc Varietal. Hints of raspberry with earthy characters, and a slight aroma of white pepper. Violets and rasberries on the palate, clean tannins and fine oak round out a superbly balanced Franc. Enjoy from now or savour it up until 2035.
